Best known for his neoclassical statues in the gardens of the Palace of Versailles, Bouchardon created the sculpture while Sir John was on his 'Grand Tour' of Europe - during which he studied for a time in Rome. The 1728 bust, created by French sculptor Edme Bouchardon, is of MP Sir John Gordon. The Bouchardon Bust was later put on display at the Louvre in Paris, and valued at a staggering £1.4 million.
At the time, she believed it may have been sitting inside the shed for several decades before she discovered it. A sculpture that was discovered propping open a garden shed in a Scottish industrial estate could now be sold off for more than £1.4million.Ĭalled the 'Bouchardon Bust', the rare statue was found in 1998 in the Easter Ross village of Balintore by local councillor Maxine Smith within an industrial estate.
